Risers in the desert

So I'm planning on taking my risers out to burningman this year. Is anyone else bringing theirs? Is there any prep I should do before I get there or are they pretty dust proof?

I'm going to be out there. This will be my first year taking stilts/powerizers to the burn. I have no idea what the conditions will be like for the stilts on the playa. I am sure, if it will be a dustier then a normal due to limited spring rains they are predicting for this year, you may want to bring tools and lubes to clean and regrease the joints. (You will want to clean them thoroughly when you get back.) Remember, you will need metric tools to properly take them apart.

I believe there will be a critical stilts parade planned for Thursday. (It should be published in the who/what/where for time and meet up location.) It would be cool if all the Powerizers group up as we can show that height isn't everything. I am working on my double fire swords on power stilts routine. I can spin my fire death stars on the stilts. I will be camped at 5:30 and Esplande with the Fire Muse / WoW camp.

I expect to spin with them on for the Fire Conclave performance right before the man burns in the great circle. I will be with the Utah Fire Enclave.

You have to be crazy to take your risers to the man. That dust will get into every facet of the stilt. Unless you are prepared to completely take them apart after the burn and wash them down bolt after bolt I would say it isn't the wisest choice. That said some people don't care about the longevity of an object that can be rebought. I can;t afford to buy them on a regular bases.

I took my risers and skips and pegs last year and it is definatly the best place for it..ever! And i plan on taking them again this year. there will be a lot of us at greeters ccamp and at the RND We also have lots of stuff planned and should be fun I will keep posting.I figured i bought them to use them not to baby them but the dust didnt do anything to them you just have to air hose them off when you get home. I havent heard of anyone having any problems with them there with the dust.

I second the motion of the best place ever! Yeah, the playa has just the right firmness to create a great surface for running and jumping and cavorting head first into the playa......sorry michael.

Hey there The Special....haven't seen you in a while. i wanna play again this year...wahoo

Yeah, definitely post in here if something riser-y is going to be happening. That'd be awesome! I bought mine when I lived in boston last year and I have yet to actually get to bounce in a group setting.

Feeling a little OG here, LOL.

I brought my risers to the playa in 2004 (and 2005 and 2006) and it's the best surface I've used them on, though I can't explain why. I sprayed them down with vinegar water when I got home but not much else and they are fine. They have a bit of a squeak now, but I think that's more related to use than playa. Atom and Lee have had theirs out there every year also and being more mechanically inclined than I am could probably give you more specifics on wear and tear and care.

Critical Stilts will be Thursday afternoon as usual, not sure what time it is, usually around 2 or 3ish. More often than not I find folks with risers out there who don't know about it so spread the word. It's great to have a bunch of bouncing maniacs buzzing around the taller creatures. I'll be in the latter, and my risers will be strapped to a friend. Bring a cup!

yep, BM is THE place for risers.
make sure your lube isn't oil based - it picks up dust and gets em cruddy. use a good bike teflon lube. then hose em off when you get home, maybe with a weak solvent.
risers and rizers, for the most part, just use a bushing system anyway (crappy and uncomplicated). With bearings (skips, velocity's) i'd be more worried about them but plenty of people bring them out with no problem. if your car can survive, your stilts can.
